Saucer magnolia
Saucer magnolia
Magnoliaceae / Magnolia X soulangeana – saucer magnolia
Magnolias are mostly admired for their flowers, and this variety indeed has an abundance of very big white flowers with touches of pink. The bold display of flowers opens up in early spring and lasts only a couple of weeks. Then after the flower petals are scattered beneath the tree in a sea of white, the flowers give room for an equally impressive foliage. Just like the flowers, the leaves are decidedly tropical in their appearance. The thick, glossy, deep green leaves are very similar to the leaves on avocado, mango, and other tropical species. Magnolia trees in summer are lushly green trees.
Magnolia branches out near the ground, growing multiple trunks that meander upward, and form many forks that form a dense, wide crown. It’s not the fastest grower, which makes it an ideal garden tree.
